Moonquake (game)

''Moonquake'' is a game written by Paul Taylor and originally published/released on the December 1992 Archimedes World coverdisc. Moonquake was the first decent Bomberman clone released for Acorn Computers.
The game is based on the moon, a meteor impact damages the moonbase and you have been called in to clear away the debris that has fallen. Travelling from level to level (10 in total) you are given an infinite collection of bombs to blast away rubble. However, the nuclear reactors around the base have been left online and if hit one too many times they wipe out everything on the level. You also have to avoid malfunctioning security robots which wander around the levels, killing you on contact.
By destroying the fallen rocks, extra blast fuel can be uncovered and picked up which gives your bombs a greater range and kill threat. Extra bombs are available and these enable you to drop more than one bomb at any time.
Mystery boxes left under the debris can have various effects, including setting you to auto-bomb-drop, freezing the droids, making you invincible or causing all unexploded bombs to detonate instantly. There is a two-player mode in which the players go head-to-head, trying to trap each other with their bombs.
''Moonquake'' has since been followed up more recently by ''Marsquake'',〔(【引用サイトリンク】archiveurl=http://web.archive.org/web/20080921160545/http://www.acorn-gaming.org.uk/index.php3?p=Free/Marsquake/ )〕 which includes new features and options.
==History==
Since the original version released by Paul Taylor, there have been two more known versions of ''Moonquake'' released.
The second version was a conversion for the Game Boy Advance by David Sharp. Using all original graphics and sounds, he successfully managed to port the single player mode to a cartridge and play the game successfully on a Game Boy Advance and also managed to get it working on a Nokia N73 mobile phone, using a program called vbag.
The third version is a release made for the Windows OS environment. Built by Sedoe,〔(【引用サイトリンク】archiveurl=http://web.archive.org/web/20120301211335/http://www.sedoe.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&layout=blog&id=5&Itemid=28 )〕 the conversion has been developed from scratch, using all new source code, and only using the RISC OS version as reference. This version has all new graphics; except the menu screen background, the in-game bombs and the title image. Also the sounds are original, using some help from David Sharp, this was possible.
